Nursing staff and Nurses make up a large percentage of the health care profession in the United States of America. Nurses
help with treatment and care of medical patients and offer a wide range of
assistance to other health care professionals. The two main types of nursing licenses are for Registered Nurses and
Licensed Practical Nurses. There are also Licensed Vocational Nurses needed.
Although, nursing is licensed through a State Board of Nursing,
all states issue a national exam created by the National Council of State Boards
of Nursing known as the NCLEX. Educational requirements vary from state to state,
but all state nursing regulations require at least a high school diploma, an associate degree or a bachelor
of science degree in nursing. Some states require continued education.
Nurses may be licensed in more than one state. Eighteen states have signed a Licensure
Agreement that permits nurses to practice their profession in any or all of those states
without going through a recertification process. Alaska allows for a temporary permit
with a passing NCLEX score.
