Getting an annual hunting license is a pretty straight-forward process in most states, in which the State
Department of Fish and Game usually oversees licensing. In New York hunting is regulated by the
Department of Environmental Conservation. Licensing fees are collected by state agencies to match
federal funding for wildlife restoration, as set by the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937.
Most states offer a variety of licenses for specific game. Hunters must carry licenses with them
while hunting and must present them upon request by wildlife officials. In California, an applicant does not need
to meet an age requirement if one can provide a certificate of hunter education. Usually hunter education
courses require a person be at least ten years of age. If you are applying for a lifetime hunting license,
which involves opening an interest-earning fund that pays for licensing annually, you also need to
complete a hunter education course. If you want to hunt ducks or other migratory game birds, you must
complete a Havest Information Program Survey.
POLITICS: As everyone with a pulse and a continued desire to hunt and fish in one of the United States of America is is becoming more
and more critical for each of us to take action and let our elected officials know how we feel about the effects of over-regulated and over "managed" hunting
and fishing opportunities. Many folks consider hunting to be a "Right" under The Constitution of the United States of America: It is not! While we are
guranteed certain rights pertaining to firearms by the Second Amendment, there are no such constituional protection in place in most States for the singular
activity of hunting.
In California, for example, there are some very radical and ineffective laws related to hunting as a back-handed way to control gun owners rights. For more
information about how to protect your rights to hunt and fish and continue to be a legal gun owner, please contact www.gunownersca.com and ask about the
five current pieces of legislation that could affect your rights as an individual if you do not get involved.
Although hunting licenses are issued at the state level, it is a good idea to check with your local goverment
regarding special permits. Even more importantly is to be aware of the wide-ranging differences in the laws of different States if you ever plan to hunt or fish
in a State other than the one you call home.
